Innovative Learning Environments (ILE) is an ITS program designed to enhance technology in educational settings at Trinity. This initiative aims to transform learning spaces to promote creativity, collaboration, and engagement. Unlike traditional classrooms, ILE spaces prioritize simplicity, flexibility, and inclusivity, incorporating faculty feedback to address common challenges.
In the new classroom design, the user experience is intentionally streamlined to minimize confusion. The classroom includes a simple touch panel control with an intuitive user interface. Faculty and students can display content wired or wirelessly with the new BYOD (bring your own device) approach. The BYOD feature also allows faculty to connect to the system and use the classroom's microphone and camera for lecture capture, whether wired or wireless. Plus, teacher stations are height-adjustable and mobile to accommodate diverse needs.
These classroom improvements were tested in the ITS Model Classroom (Library 101Z) with faculty and staff to ensure usability before deployment. This past winter, two classrooms, Storch 113 and RTT 318, have been upgraded using the new classroom design. We look forward to learning more about the faculty and student experience in these two new classrooms.
If you would like to bring a class to test the technology, please contact Marina Walton (mwalton1@trinity.edu) or Hector Araujo (haraujo@trinity.edu) to schedule a day and time.
