Academic Affairs, Information Technology Services (ITS) and the Coates Library have crafted the following process if you need digital versions of films for academic use. We expect that a majority of requests will be met by these options. At this time, ITS and the Coates Library are not able to digitize films from DVDs/Blu-ray. Additional information can be found on the FAQ page - Instructors accessing digital content for academic use. Please understand that we will be evaluating this new process to best support access to digital instructional materials.
Step 1. Accessing current Trinity digital content
Submit a ticket to itsupport@trinity.edu if you have previously used a film for a class or if you find any content on Listing of digital content in ECHO 360. In your request, please provide the following for a given course:
-
The current course the film(s) will be used in, using the naming convention: DEPT-COURSE#-SECT# COURSE NAME (for example: FYE-1600-12 The First-Year Experience or EDUC-2302-1 Practicum in Secondary Education)
-
Film title(s)
-
How will you share the film(s) with your students (i.e. direct link, Canvas, etc).
You should also search the Library catalog, and if you find a film, click the “Online Content” link to confirm that the library has immediate access. If you are able to access the film, include the “permalink” from the library catalog description and share with your students (i.e. direct link, CANVAS, etc.). In some cases, you may need to request access to films available from the Kanopy database. Complete the request form and a library staff member will be in contact regarding the request.
Step 2. If Trinity does not have your needed digital content
You should contact your library liaison. Please submit your requests at least 2 weeks prior to its intended use to provide the Coates Library adequate time to obtain the needed materials.
If possible, library staff will purchase a digital version of the film and contact the instructor when the film is available for use. If a film is not available in digital form, the library will purchase a DVD/Blu-ray copy of the film and contact the instructor when the film is available for use. The DVD/Blu-ray can be shown during class or placed on reserve for students to watch at their convenience.
