Glossary

Term in Workday Term at Trinity Term Definition
Accounting Journal Journal Entry Accounting journals are manual journals that may be used to transfer funds from one account to another or to correct transactions that do not fall within the parameters of an Accounting Adjustment.
Accounting Adjustment Journal Entry Accounting Adjustments are used to correct certain worktags on non-payroll spend transactions, i.e. spend category, cost center, grant, gift or designation.
Business Assets   Workday combines the traditionally separate domains of fixed, large assets and inventory with the ability to manage these items that might be small and inexpensive but are still important to your business.
Business Process Approval Process Tasks that you can initiate, act on, and complete in order to accomplish a desired business objective.
Costing Allocation   Provides the flexibility to allocate all or a portion of a salary to be paid from a Cost Center other than the default
Crosswalk   Files and programs that ensure legacy data maps or links correctly connect to the corresponding values in the Workday configuration.
EIB (Enterprise Interface Builder) GLIM (General Ledger Import) The Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB) is Workday’s framework for simple integrations between Workday and external endpoints. For inbound EIBs, a spreadsheet template is populated to import data into Workday.
Foundation Data Model (FDM) Chart of Accounts Workday Foundation Data Model (FDM) is a multi-dimensional data structure that serves as the backbone for transaction processing and reporting done within Workday. 
Functional Area   A functional area is a collection of domain or business process security policies that are related to the same set of product features, for example, Assets, Banking & Settlement, Grants, etc.
Project Capital Project (Project ID) An undertaking that encompasses a set of tasks or activities having a definable starting point and well defined objectives.  Usually each task has a planned completion data (due date) and assigned resources. 
Worktags Accounts Worktags are identifiers, composed of letter and number combinations, that show where money is coming from and going, what it's being used for, and who's associated with it.

This video explains how gifts, grants, and other income and reimbursements to the University (including cash, checks, and point of sale devices) will be handled in Workday.

 

Foundation Data Model (FDM) Chart of Accounts (Video Only)

This video walks you through the Foundation Data Model, a multidimensional data structure in Workday that serves as the basis of financial transactions and reporting, and is replacing the chart of accounts in Colleague.

 

Journal Entry (JE) Requests and Accounting Adjustments (Video Only)

This video will teach you about the difference between journal entries, which involve any transaction that does not involve a payment to or from someone outside of Trinity, and accounting adjustments, which only involve changing the spend category or cost center.
